Braces

Everyone wants to have a great smile and we at Bridge Road Dental, Richmond, believe everyone deserves this. Our clinic is well known for its cosmetic dentistry in Melbourne. Braces are a great way to correct any alignment issues with your teeth. Braces align and straighten teeth and help position teeth to the desired positions. Your personal requirement from a braces treatment may be purely cosmetic, and a common misconception is that braces are purely for cosmetic reasons. However, braces can also be suggested to improve structural issues with your teeth and braces also improve the function of your teeth. Braces improve the alignment of your teeth and thereby improve the way you eat and the way you talk. After a braces treatment, your teeth will improve both aesthetically and functionally.

The ideal age for braces is from the ages of 7 to 14. Since the child is still growing and changing, this is the best time to guide the teeth into right positions and alter the jaw bone to suit this movement. Although the best results can be obtained in growing children, some issues can be corrected in adults and young adults also. Our clinic will give you access to some of the best dentists in Melbourne. Our dentists have many years of experience in the field. After they analyse your situation, they will suggest treatment options that best suits your situation.

How do Braces work

Braces work over a period of time by slowly applying pressure and moving the teeth to the desired positions. Braces treatment will take place in the following manner

-Small squares called brackets are bonded to your teeth using a special dental bonding agent. A bracket can be made of a variety of materials. The material could be metal or ceramic or plastic. The ceramic or plastic material is usually chosen because they are less apparent to notice.

– Arch wires are then threaded between brackets and fixed with plastic or metal ligatures.

– Orthodontic bands are next applied over this. This band is used to slowly apply pressure and move the teeth.

– After your braces are removed, you will have to wear a retainer. This retainer will ensure that the moved teeth stay in place. At first you will have to wear it for entire days and then probably only overnight for a few days. The duration of retainer wear will depend on your specific case.

This is just a general representation of the treatment. Depending on your specific needs, there may be other treatment modalities involved. Braces are sometimes used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to help widen the palate or jaws. A holistic approach is necessary to achieve both functional and cosmetic benefits.
